The General Rules of Basic Blackjack Strategy

Some factors that add to the success of the basic strategy are that you can choose when you have to take another card, double the stake, or split the first two cards. The general rule is to stand on 17 or more, always hit on 12-16 and 8, and hit when the dealer has a card which is 7 or higher.

You have the option to double the bet when you have already seen the first two cards. Make sure that you double down on 10 and 11 if the dealer has a 9 or less than. You need to double down 9 if the dealer has a 6 or lower.

In case you receive 2 cards of the same denomination, you can decide on splitting them. Splitting is favorable when you receive a pair of 8. Two hands of 18 each is taken to be a much better hand.
